I grew up in Cornwall and recently relocated back home after many years living Yorkshire. Now, being a little older, I have an appreciation for the beautiful South West that perhaps my younger self could not see. So many aspects of social life intrigue me; working harbours, shopping, agriculture, repairing roads and the sea. It is all new and inspiring. A feel for what I am interpreting is important so I’ll spend time sat on harbour walls, talking to workmen, or sneakily hiding in my car capturing shoppers during the pandemic. I take pictures and make small sketches before executing the paintings at my studio. I like the slow drying quality of oil because I have time to blend, erase and layer the paint. I also enjoy making working drawings with charcoal, again because it is such a flexible medium.

I studied art at York St Johns and spent many years teaching arts before becoming an artist full time. I am a Harrogate Mercer Open winner, Platform Open winner and have recently exhibited at the Royal West Of England Academy.
